Welcome!
Whether you’re a first time visitor or long time member, we’re glad you’re interested in learning what’s happening at Soapstone United Methodist Church. Although Soapstone is one of the oldest United Methodist churches in the Raleigh area, our mission and desire are new each day. We strive to be a ministry that changes lives as we joyfully worship and honor Christ through help, healing and hospitality. We hope to see you soon!
Calling All Writers, Christian Thinkers, People Who Love and Experience God . . . The Christian Formation Task Force is compiling contributions for a Lenten Devotional Book for our congregation. We will use the Lectionary Readings for this year as our guide. A devotion should follow the format below:
- Scripture (Inclusion of full scripture is not necessary but is okay if someone wants to include it. Devotion should definitely include a couple of verses if the writer concentrates on them.)
- Personal story, experience, devotional thought, poem, song, etc…
- Prayer Focus for the day
- Action for the day
- The total devotional should be only a page. Similar to Upper Room.
Please sign up online. Your devotions should be completed and emailed to Gretchen Shea no later than February 12, 2012. If you have any questions contact Gretchen at gshea@soapstoneumc.org or call 846-2212, x313. The Lenten Devotional Books will be available on Sunday, February 19th, so you may begin using them on Ash Wednesday, February 22nd.
SOUPer Bowl Sunday February 5th!! We are expecting the weather to be a bit CHILI…brrrr. There’s nothing better on a cold winter day than watching football and enjoying a hot bowl of soup or chili and perhaps a little dessert. You can do that AND support our youth missions by purchasing soup, chili or dessert at our sale on Sunday, February 5th, after both the 8:30 and 11:00 am worship services. GO YOUTH!
Blood Drive Thursday, February 16th . . . Our 2012 Blood Drives will be on Thursday and our first one is right around the corner! Please mark your calendar and sign up online or call the church office. Today we need your help more than ever. Become a volunteer blood donor at Rex Blood Services because…
♥ Every three seconds someone needs blood.
♥ One out of every 10 people entering a hospital needs blood.
♥ About 32,000 pints of blood are used each day in the United States.
♥ And still … there is no substitute for human blood.
Congregational Email List . . . If you would like to be added to the list of those receiving our weekly Wednesday E-news and monthly newsletter via email, please contact the church office.
