Disciple

Each year Soapstone offers DISCIPLE I along with one or more of the advanced DISCIPLE classes listed below. Over a 2-3 year period all of the DISCIPLE classes are available. In academic year 2008-09, Soapstone is offering Disciple I-II-III plus, at Windborne UMC, “Jesus in the Gospels.”

DISCIPLE I
Becoming DISCIPLES Through Bible Study

A 34-week study that moves through the biblical story from Creation to the New Jerusalem. DISCIPLE I participants will have the opportunity to learn and grown in faith and in their understanding of the Bible and to grow in Christian community and fellowship. Facilitator Tom Huffstetler — Thursday evenings at 7 pm, starting 9/4/08, Room 108/110.

DISCIPLE II
Into the Word Into the World

A 32-week study of Genesis-Exodus and Luke-Acts prepared for graduates of DISCIPLE I: Becoming DISCIPLES Through Bible Study. This study emphasizes the rhythm of coming to God and going for God, of being in the Word and in the world individually and corporately. Facilitator Bill Poston — Sunday afternoons at 4 pm, starting 9/7/08, Room 116.

DISCIPLE III
Remember Who You Are

A 32-week study of The Old Testament Prophets and The Letters of Paul available to graduates of DISCIPLE I: Becoming DISCIPLES Through Bible Study. This study focuses on the connection between memory and identity as the people of God. DISCIPLE III looks at how we are called to live out our Christian identity in the world, through the words of the Old Testament prophets and Paul. (It is not necessary to have taken Disciple II first.) Facilitator Joe Johnson — Thursday evenings at 7 pm, starting 9/4/08, Room 101/103.

DISCIPLE Second Generation Studies
Jesus in the Gospels

A 30-week study that builds on the DISCIPLE model of higher commitment, longer-term, disciplined study that fosters community and transformation. Jesus in the Gospels invites believers to look at Jesus in each of the four Gospels and ask the question "who is the Jesus that you see?". This study looks at the way each Gospel writer presents events and teachings and at the picture of Jesus that emerges in each of the Gospels. Contact Robert Bays Thursday evenings at 6:30pm, starting in 9/08, at Windborne UMC.
