Our Purpose
It is the purpose of Soapstone Preschool to provide each child with genuine care
and love in a safe, nurturing, and Christian environment. Each child will be recognized
as a special individual and given the opportunity to grow spiritually, socially,
emotionally, physically, and mentally. The staff of the preschool is committed to
supporting families and children.
Our Philosophy
Our philosophy is an extension of Soapstone United Methodist Church’s mission statement:
to joyfully worship and honor Christ through help, healing, and hospitality. Soapstone
Preschool provides an environment where children are encouraged to learn through
hands-on activities, to socialize, and to develop a loving relationship with their
friends and teachers. The environment includes age appropriate learning centers,
reflective of the children’s skills, life experiences, and individual needs. Parents
and families are a very important part of our school and we welcome them as partners
in our preschool community.
Our History
Soapstone Preschool began in 1991 as a Mother's Morning Out cooperative
program one day a week. Volunteer parents rotated to each classroom helping the
teachers. In the 1993/1994 school year our Mother's Morning Out became Soapstone
Preschool. Two years later our preschool opened five mornings a week and the new
education wing was occupied. Assistant teachers were then hired to replace volunteer
parents in the classroom. Although the co-op idea has been discontinued, Soapstone
Preschool continues to keep their doors open for parents to volunteer any time.
Currently, there are 16 classes with 189 children enrolled and a staff of 29. We
are looking forward to the 2008/2009 school year as we serve our church and community.
It's been exciting to watch our program grow throughout the years and to realize
how much God has richly blessed this church with the ministry for children!
